Heeia State Park says Meeeowww!

Furry fierce looking catIf you’re a cat person, this place is for you!

I grew up with cats and they never fail to fascinate me. Sometimes they can be dumb and stupid but for me, that makes them even more lovable. Plan a trip at Heiia State Park, along Kamehameha Highway just before you reach the Heeia Boat Harbor. Yes, there are other things to do in the park, like go in their mini museum, have a picnic, look out into the ocean, etc, but what I enjoyed in the park is really feeding the cats.

Let me tell you my meow-ful encounter with these furry animals… Read the rest of Heeia State Park says Meeeowww! »

Experience Beach-hopping Oahu East-side

from Makapu'u view point - spectahculah!I recently moved to Hawaii and I’m pretty much seeing and learning things first hand here. I have to say, I think I made the right decision.

My cousin recently bought an SLR camera and he took me to a beach-hopping drive starting from Waimanalo to take his toy on a field test. Try to imagine driving between the powerful rise of moutains that leave your mouth open to your right AND the vast blue-green-white ocean to the left. The Bus: Easy, Convenient, Amusing

Inside The BusRated the No.1 public transit system in America, Honolulu’s The Bus is really more than just a public transport vehicle. I would say The Bus ‘moves’ me. Ride on.

I’ve been taking The Bus for two months now and it’s really pretty convenient especially when you’re just to and from your workplace. With the gas prices hiking up cost of living spars with your efforts, it’s time to rethink again about buying that second hand vehicle. I say, take The Bus.

Spending a Day Remembering Pearl Harbor

U.S.S. Arizona MemorialThis past February, along with my friend from out of town, Jeannine, I went to see the historical sights of Pearl Harbor. I’m SO glad to have experienced what we did. I don’t think that anyone can come to Oahu and NOT make a pilgrimage to Pearl Harbor. It was a very emotional day, but it’s a life-changing experience. East-West Fusion with Shokudo and Flower Drum Song

Shokudo Restaurant Honey ToastAccidentally my friends and I created a nice thematic evening with having dinner at Shokudo restaurant and watching “Flower Drum Song” at Diamond Head Theater. Shokudo is great for experiencing and tasting Asian fusion style dishes. The “Flower Drum Song” is about Japanese immigrants trying to assimilate to San Francisco. It was a fun evening with food, friends and good entertainment. Read the rest of East-West Fusion with Shokudo and Flower Drum Song »

Feeding the Fish at the Byodo-In Temple

The Byodo-in Temple, surrounded by natureFrom the moment I moved to Oahu, I have been interested in checking out the Byodo-in Temple. I imagined a place of refuge, somewhere where I could unwind and maybe even meditate. I’d also heard about the Koi fish in the garden of the temple and I was especially excited to see if they were as big in real life as in photos I’d seen! So on a Monday morning, I went in search of tranquility with my friend Jeannine, who was visiting from New Jersey. Read the rest of Feeding the Fish at the Byodo-In Temple »

Makapuu Tide Pools – An Adventurous Trek

Tide Pools High ViewOahu’s Windward side is packed with abundant natural treasures. One really fun treasure to explore is the trail to Makapuu Lighthouse. On the way to the lighthouse, you can hike down to the lava rock surface that houses the warm tide pools.

The Makapuu Lighthouse trail is 3.9 miles from Hanauma Bay as you head north toward Waimanalo on Kalanianaole Highway. (Factoid: It’s also the eastern-most point of the island of Oahu.) If you’re coming from Honolulu, mapquest Hanauma Bay, drive 3.9 miles past it, and you’ll see the trail parking lot on the right. If you’re coming from the Read the rest of Makapuu Tide Pools – An Adventurous Trek »

A Day at the Polynesian Cultural Center — Oahu

One of the villages of th Polynesian Cultural CenterA couple of months ago, I set out in search of adventure with my friend Jeannine. The big destination of the day was the Polynesian Cultural Center in the town of Laie up north. It’s supposed to be one of Hawaii’s (or Oahu’s) most popular “paid attractions.” I say it that way because there are SO many things to do/see for FREE here that tourists have plenty to do without spending a dime! However, this is a paid attraction and the money is for a good cause — from what I understood, it helps support the education of the students who also work at the PCC and attend Brigham Young University Hawaii.
