At first the trails are somewhat wide, but they quickly narrow to single-file conditions as the grade becomes steeper. The surroundings are hot and dry, but there is interesting plant life and birds to look at, and of course, remarkable geological formations. It was originally named Diamond Head by sailors who saw shining mica in the rocks, mistaking it for diamonds.

Party Boat Fishing—Honolulu
After a safety briefing by the captain, we motored out of the harbor as the deckhand prepared a simple but filling barbecue lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, rice and beans. We motored past Waikiki beach and around the famous Diamond head volcano landmark, to our fishing grounds. There are some nice views of the coast along the way—it’s a great way to see the island. Plus, we even saw some dolphins following the boat! Then the boat anchored about two miles from shore, and we began to fish.
Kayaking Waikiki—Honolulu
There are many interesting kayak spots around the island, but it is fun to paddle out from Waikiki and get a look back at the city from out on the water. It is a most impressive view, and oftentimes we can hear the music from Kapiolani Park drifting out across the water. Once we even heard the theme song from Hawaii Five-O as we paddled over the face of an oncoming wave. Just be sure to check the surf and make sure it’s not too large.
Oahu Circle Island Tour—Honolulu
There’s no reason to limit your visit on Oahu to Honolulu and Waikiki. The diverse island of Oahu is small enough to drive around in one day, and it is well worth the effort. In fact, driving tours of the island are so common that one of the more popular general routes has a name: the “circle island tour.”
Hiking the Manoa Falls Trail–Honolulu
You will witness a veritable explosion of tropical plant life, including stands of bamboo, exotic flowers, and humongous trees once used to build the outrigger canoes prized by native Hawaiians. Critter-wise, my wife and I didn’t see any four-legged animals on our hike, but there are numerous birds, both seen and unseen, calling from the forest canopy.
Snorkel Waikiki –Honolulu
My wife and I (I’m 40 and she’s 38), like to go snorkeling on the weekends at Waikiki Beach. We live in Waikiki, so we do it often. Many people don’t realize how much there is to see right off one of the world’s most famous beaches! One of our favorite spots is right in front of the Halekulani Hotel. We bring mask, fins, snorkel, towels and underwater cameras to shoot pictures of whatever we might see.
Submarine Dive– Honolulu
Then we submerged into another world. The water was very clear, and we could see many fish as the sub glided through the deep. Down we went, to a depth of over 100 feet. Soon we saw a shipwreck, with green sea turtles basking on its decks! We glided above the ocean floor until we reached another wreck. Underneath this one, a pair of whitetip sharks could be seen resting on the sandy bottom.

Children’s Discovery Center: Amazing Transformation
Especially dedicated to mommies and pre-school teachers dealing with sponge kids who just seem to absorb everything - ideal learning experience! It is a three storey museum building filled with surprises and adventures not just for the keikis (kids) but also for young adults to seniors. It is a place for everyone’s imagination to come to reality. I will briefly talk about the RAINBOW WORLD where I flew from country to country and didn’t have to worry about jetlag.
The Dole Plantation - Wahiawa, Oahu
When my friend Lizzie came to see me, I just knew she’d love checking out the Dole Plantation. It’s just north of Wahiawa, and a really fun outing for anyone who likes food, nature, and plants. I’d already been to the Dole Plantation several times, but since it was Lizzie’s first trip to Hawaii, we decided to go.
