The boat set out at about 5 p.m. and we headed off into the ocean, beers in hand. Beer always goes very well with sailing! The cruise was amazing! I would totally do the whole catamaran thing again. The breeze was awesome (or full-blown wind at times!), the boat was riding the waves like crazy, splashing water at the front and on the nets, and we actually saw whales – lots of them!

Running Waikiki
The Waikiki / Diamond Head / Kapiolani Park / Ala Wai Canal area is perfect for any avid runners. All these areas have shoulder lanes or side walks to run on. You can easily run up to 10 miles if you circle each of these areas. If you’re like me and go [...]
A Stroll at the International Market Place - Waikiki Beach
This could also be the perfect spot for picking out a nice gift for a loved one back home. And did I mention the food? If all the walking around and shopping causes you to work up an appetite, have no fear…there’s a stand to suit every type of taste bud.
Marine Creatures at Ko Olina — Oahu Beach
Something I really enjoy doing here on Oahu is going to Ko Olina. It’s a big resort, but in Hawaii, all beaches are considered public, so you don’t have to be a guest of the hotel to hang out there. I’ve spent the day there several times and it’s super fun! It’s an ideal beach for those with kids because of the fact that Ko Olina is actually several lagoons, created by big rocks that are blocking off the pounding waves. The end result is tranquil, gentle waters! Anyone who is a little freaked out by powerful waves – this is the beach for you!
Sea Turtles at Oahu’s North Shore
The first time I explored Oahu’s North shore, I was determined to see some sea turtles! I had read on the internet that there was a specific beach where giant marine turtles like to crawl up onto the sand and sunbathe. How amazing would that be, to witness that? I decided I had to find this beach!
A Meal You’ll Never Forget: Oahu’s North Shore Shrimp
One day, as I was driving along the coast of Oahu’s North Shore, I smelled the most intense and delicious smell EVER. It was time for lunch and I was hungry, so I decided to find out what could smell so amazing! I spotted a series of trucks on the side of the road, and [...]
Feeding the Fish at the Byodo-in Temple- Oahu
From the moment I moved to Oahu, I have been interested in checking out the Byodo-in Temple. I imagined a place of refuge, somewhere where I could unwind and maybe even meditate. I’d also heard about the Koi fish in the garden of the temple and I was especially excited to see if they were as big in real life as in photos I’d seen! So on a Monday morning, I went in search of tranquility with my friend Jeannine, who was visiting from New Jersey.
A Kite and a Picnic at Ali’i Beach Park-Hale’iwa
Rich blue sky set off by sharp white clouds, a vast expanse of green grass, the sound of waves gently crashing, and the trade winds playful at your back—the perfect day for a kite and a picnic at Ali’i Beach Park. Ali’i Beach is a local favorite for body-boarding and surfing alike but the [...]
Sunset at, ahem, Sunset Beach - North Shore
What better place to go and watch the sunset than, well, Sunset Beach? It’s not a misnomer. This North Shore beach is a spectacular sure thing for watching the Hawaiian sun set over the Pacific in all seasons. Unlike other beaches on the North Shore that seasonally lose their [...]
Arnold’s-Waikiki’s character dive
Typically, I would not promote a business, but Arnold’s is more than that…it is definitely an experience! This cozy little dive bar is located on Saratoga Avenue, across from Waikiki Post Office, and just off of Kalakaua Ave.
